I first looked at this several years ago when I first got 'Netted', but the mechanisms seemed complicated. It was suggested that a good first step would be to start a mailing list. I suggested the USMA start one, and Don Hilger told me that there was a facility available at his uni. which he would resurrect. Hence the USMA mailing list got off the ground. I'm not sure that it's viable to set up a newsgroup just for metric. I'm happy to be proved wrong, but I suspect it would be swamped by people who are antagonistic, and who more often than not resort to abusive language.
