I'm guilty of using the slang among my coworkers :).

I know that when I use gigabyte or megabyte at work I usually say it gigs of megs of memory just for conenience. A lot of times if we're using a fluid measured in mL we'll use mils as a slang term. Same thing for klicks.

I agree that to be proper you should use the proper terms, but if you're among people who have a full understanding of metrics and aren't just learning it (for example my computer and engineering coworkers), wouldn't it be okay to use the slang in that context? I understand that for someone who is using it for the first time it's important for them to understand the proper terms, but once you're familiar with it is it really so bad using slang? :)
