This surprises me, I had completely forgotten to take a look at the
cluster when I last rode in one of the newest Passats.
My VW, a 2004 R32, had a cluster that came in both mph and km/h. I
actually switched it out to a km/h only cluster that also displayed the
water temp in degrees C. Based on M. Payne's email, I'm now worried if
I'll be given any grief when my car is inspected next year in regards to
the display only being in kilometres.
Honestly, what surprises me the most is that they don't seem to think we
ever visit Canada or Mexico, which a lot of Americans actually do. At
least my mother's Pontiac Bonneville has a button next to the wheel that
lets you switch on the fly from mph to km/h.
I'll be sure to write a letter to VWoA about this. Additionally, please
post this on the VWVortex.com Passat forums, perhaps a good discussion
could result, and maybe you could also get an answer to your problem.
If you want to go to the point of switching your cluster gauge faces, I
can look up the VW part numbers for you.
