I'm not sure it was 'rammed down everyone's throats'.  I can understand 
pro-metric folk being somewhat against such a thing but those not involved in 
the debate (which is, let's face it, a lot of people) don't seem to have 'put 
up a fight' against such a thing.  It just happened I guess.Although if a 
screen got down to 1cm thick I would have thought that would be a good selling 
point in Europe + R.O.W., US or UK - simply because it's a milestone.  Erm. 
Sort of. ;-)

Given the fact that world allowed the US companies to ram inches down 
everyone's throats for diagonal screen measurements, now it will have to put up 
with more of the same nonsense.  As televisions are becoming thinner and 
thinner, worldwide players like Samsung are now advertising the thickness of 
their television sets in...inches.  I just saw an ad for a set that measures 
1.2".  You'd tink that this would be the natural place for millimeters or 
centimeters, but give them an inch...
