Hi Parker,

Very well done site for people who are interested in learning about the metric
system and would be a great educational tool, but most people are either
already in favor of it or don't care. Preaching to the choir. However, I
really like one section of it (shown below, I hope the text format comes
through on the email.) That is the kind of thing that is needed to convince
people to consider looking at the system. It is simple. It can be read and
understood in 20 seconds. If anything else is added it will start to look too
much like math and most people's short attention will fade. The point is not
to try to educate them, just to get them to look more favorably on the metric
system so people will become more accepting of metric packaging in the grocery
store and with other products, and, as Martin says, get used to it in daily
life, which has to be done before there is any real hope of conversion.

WHY METRIC?

When our country was founded, we had pounds, shillings and pennies.

1 shilling = 12 pennies
1 pound = 20 shillings

It was clumsy and complicated. You divide by 12 and 20, carry, to add numbers.

Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington came up with the
idea of decimal money and convinced the congress to go with decimal money.

1 dollar = 100 cents.

Today, we still use legacy weights and measures:

1 foot = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet
1 fathom = 2 yards
1 mile = 880 fathoms
1 mile = 63360 inches

The French took our idea of decimal money and developed the decimal metric
system of weights and measures.

 1 meter = 100 centimeters

It is just like: 1 dollar = 100 cents.

Subject: [USMA 1320] Complicated vs simple measurement methodologies

Hi:

Take a look at my web site:
sites.google.com/site/mymetric

See my latest argument for adopting the metric system. You can copy and
forward it to everybody.

It needs to be put in front of all American people to show that our legacy
units of measurement is just a big KLUDGE!
