It might be worth mentioning that the prototype imperial yard was found to be shrinking, whereas the prototype metre was exceptionally stable. That is the reason why both the US and the UK based their formal definitions on the metre rather than the prototype imperial yard. If we can get someone high-profile to promote the cause, it will make a big difference. Even better yet, contact the Food Marketing Institute and get them to change their opposition to the metric-only labeling proposal. This in itself would make a great step forward if people can buy their soap and shampoo legally in metric-only labeled containers.
