Mac; The half clutch plate i'm refering to is I think the last one in the clutch
basket. To get to it you have to remove a very fine wire retaining spring on the
out side of the basket that holds I think the last pair of plates. That's where
this last clutch plate is, It is a smaller diameter than all the rest. It has been
two years since I did this operation so my memory may not be completely correct.
The idea is that you increase your clutch surface area by replacing this with the
standard larger one. On Paul Sayegh web page there is a description of this
procedure in the article on the double 'D' clutch modification. I replaced my
spring with a new one along with the full plate replacing the half plate right at
the same mileage that you have on your bike now. Pretty soon I'll be doing it again
since I have traveled about 16k since the change of spring. The double 'D'
modification has a slam shut kind of clutch engagement quality but it is kind of
tiring for the sportier rider that likes going up and down the gears as I do. When
you take your clutch apart be sure to put them back like they were. You might also
want to make sure the metal clutch plates are nice and flat not warped. Do this
with a flat piece of glass.Cheers,
