Trevor,
You'll get some of the benefits of internally lowering your front
suspension via a spring kit without the advantages of a different spring
rate. If you have a '93 or newer, you can easily slide your tubes up
the triple clamps. I did that exact thing a few weeks ago. I also
installed 11.5" Progressive 418 springs in the rear to lower the entire
bike. I've read (from this list) that the frame geometry could use some
improvements, namely changing the rake angle of the front fork. I slid
my tubes up 1.25". I found that it corners much easier at all speeds.
It seems to be much easier to control particularly at slower speeds,
less that 40 mph, that is. Check it out, you could always move them
back down. Just be sure that you accurately slide each tube the same
amount. Now that my tubes extend above the triple clamps, I've been
considering eliminating my handlebars in favor of 43 mm clipon type.
I'm just concerned about lid clearance.
