Charles,
not being a machinist nor having access to the equipment i
didn't even think of doing this myself. the ones i bought on the list where
so beutiful and fit so prcisely that i concidered them more than worth the
price.
as far as the carb bands, i lossened them but never needed
to move the carbs during my install.
yes, when you take the radiater loose just let it hang
forward. there is enough slack to get it out of the way of the pipes to
remove them. i didn't loosen the clamps.
i would (and did) use fresh head to pipe gaskets . they are
cheap and good insurance.
being an 85, my original mounts where such junk that they
all came straight out at the slightest attempt. the new ones fit right in
but where a much better tollerence than the originals.
"moving the engine around" when you get the swing-arm off
and are at this stage of things you will pretty much see what needs to
happen to get it done. i took the instructions Mike posted to the garage and
read them step for step while i was working and had no difficulties at all.
depending on how sensitive to vibration you are you may not
even notice it in your hands and surely not your feet. my mirrors gel some
above 6000rpm now but, by that time it's far to late to be worrying about
what's behind me. and the extra confidence of the handling improvement will
keep you ahead of most anything, and besides if they can catch you they can
probably get past pretty handily as well.
you can do it, take your time and look and think.
