Charles,
I just did this mod. Follow the steps on Paul's web site . The only
difference is I took the carbs off & swaped the mounts all at once .Only
10 min extra work . It makes the job go much easier.
The radiator just hangs there do not losen the hose clamps .
You do not need new exhaust gaskets .
The stock mounts pull right out in one piece . If you get one that's
stuck you can drive them out from the back side . You will see this
possibility once everything is apart .
The U-joint is inside the rubber boot on the swingarm . You will see
this after the swingarm is out . Just position it so that it is hanging
down and you will have enough clearence .
I did this job with no help . I used two floor jacks . One in the front
& one in the rear on center line of engine . I jacked the engine
straight up 'til I had clearence on the rear mounts . Then I changed all
the mounts at one time . What hits when jacking the engine is the front
valve cover on the down tubes of the frame . Jack the engine in a
see-saw motion. Raise the engine evenly 'til the valve cover hits . Then
raise the front to get clearence & raise the motor some more "til the
front hits again & so forth . Just make sure that you do not raise the
bike . Only raise the engine . Take your time due to the bike is very
unstable at this time . Once I had clearence on the rear mounts I
changed all of them at one time .
Finally I personaly would not make the mounts from stainless steel. It
will set up corrosion from the two dissimilar metals . I would use
Aluminum or Delrin . IMHO for $65 + shipping I would not make them .
It is the best mod. that I've done so far as handling goes.
