John, I agree about the polishing. I polished every single aluminum part on
my 87 over a single rainy weekend. I personally think the polished aluminum
"fits" Max better than chrome would. All it cost me were two tubes of
Semichrome metal polish, a bag of 000 and 0000 steel wool, and a bad case
of tendentious. I was also thinking about anodizing or sealing them
afterwards, but got lazy. Three weeks later, all parts were just as bright
and shiny as the day I polished them, and a little hit of Semichrome on a
soft cloth every couple of months seems to keep them that way. Wish I'd
known about the oven cleaner trick, though, I might be typing with both
hands by now! Jacques.
