Delrin is neither a steel nor stainless.  It's an engineering plastic 
offering greater strength and wear resistance.  It's similar to nylon, but is 
more dimensionally stable under wet or humid conditions due to lower water 
absorption characteristics.  Chemically it's called Acetal.  Delrin is the 
market name from DuPont.  It's also known as Celcon, tradename from a firm 
called Celanese Corp.

The product is used extensively in automotive suspension components (like 
bushings for shock mounts, anti-sway bar guides, etc...).

That's it, Chemical Engineering 101 class dismissed.
