Wow guys,,, what a can of worms we opened,

Don: I've heard of the sealed bearing with ajustable vanes turbos and they
sure would be easier to deal with,,,

Gary: good oil supply info....The thermal loading I was refering to is the
heating of the oil by the turbo,,, this is always present on regular turbos
and that is what shortens engine life.
Also, about 12 psi is about all 91 octane can handle without "other"
measures. Remember, it is tricky to find what the "REAL" compression ratio
is vs static CR. That is why a knock sensor with auto-retard is the ONLY way
to truly deal with detonation and get max power... Detonation can be
happening at high power and you'll never feel it untill is severe and then
it's too late.

Eric: You hit the nail on the head with the lack of a trick ignition system
for NOX, turbos, and superchargers. The fact that we have 70 degree V-fours
make it harder. The inline fours with even 180 degree firing have a better
time of it.
Also, you are dead right about the handling,,, My 18 year old Seca turbo 650
(93 rwhp) gets as wiggly as a snake on "cocaine" when the boost is on.

Kraig: the deal with NOX is that it has to be setup(rich enough) and
operated properly (burped and extra fuel flow on BEFORE the NOX gets to
engine). After all that, it is less stressful than turbos or superchargers.
All the burned pistons and damaging sneezing is from too lean!!!
With NOX think of it as turning on pure O2 into the intake mixture. If the
extra fuel is not on hand RIGHT THEN,,,, big trouble. If it is there,,,, go
like hell!
Therefore, NOX is the closest way to have your cake and eat it too. It is
best still to have the timing backed off at least 10% or so as denser
fuel/air charges burn quicker.

Guys,,, this has me thinking that the major roadblock to bigger power is the
need FIRST for a trick ignition system. How many of you guys would be
willing to buy one if it was ,say, a few hundred dollars??????
While a complete Twin-turbo kit is way beyond the time and resources I
have right now.... an ignition system might not be. I'll look it to it this
weekend.
