Eric,
I had 53,000+ miles on my bike when the u-joint bearing gave out. Since
you already have the motor out, I would REPLACE u-joint bearings. There are
little ball bearing inside the bearing housing. If the bearing housing is dry
the little bearing fallout in time allowing the + to move around in the bearing
housing. A hard snap of the gas could cause the + to break (in my case).
