Hi List,

Well, I took the themocouple and the valve assembly out of an old regulator.  Sure enough, when I heated the termocouple, the valve held in the open position until it closed.  It snapped closed.  The wires I thought were for the electromagnet were actually from the therature switch.  When the overheat opens, the circuit for the electromagnet is opened and the LP is shut off.

What does all this mean?  Well, you can use the part from an old regulator as a test unit for a thermocouple.  Just heat it with a torch and it will hold  if the thermocouple is OK!
