As Tom said, Linux and NetBSD on a Indigo2 or newer is not a real fun
proposition since none of the Indigo2 or newer graphics options are
supported (meaning neither the original I2 graphics, Impact Series, the
O2 stuff, or the Vpro graphics in Octanes, Fuels, and Tezro).

Indys support, I believe, non-accelerated graphics, however, on some of
their graphics options, when running Linux or NetBSD.

That all said, IRIX is the way to go on SGIs. If you need a copy. Let me
know. I can get you running up to the last freely downloadable
maintenance release (something like 6.5.22?). I think I have 5.3 around
if needed, too. IRIX is really pretty good for a UNIX system. Of course
it would be better if it were FOSS, but at least SGI gave XFS and some
other goodies to the community.

If you need software, then get the precompiled installable tardists from
Nekochan.net. And join the forums there to hook up with those who still
deeply care about an SGI that has abandoned them.

Good luck!

Nick,

You ever install any other OS (linux?) on an SGI?
Just curious... I've got some Indigo2s hanging around.
Should have junked them by now, but I'm too lazy....

cheers,
Ernie
