Torrent a copy of MiniPE.  It's a copy of BartPE (A stripped down
cd-running version of WindowsXP) loaded with a boatload of useful apps,
including Avast! AV.  There's a load of other programs on there for
checking disks, working with the registry, etc....too numerous to list.

There's other BartPE disks around, but this is sort of the "end all"
solution for working with sick Windows machines.

Also, a tip.  Delete all temp directories and internet history/cache.
90% of viruses and malware operate out of there.
