Hey, while we're on the subject... Has anyone had any success getting Evolution under Ubuntu (8.04 or 8.10, I have both) working reliably and usably with Exchange 2003? I can get it to connect, but it is the slowest and most crash-prone thing I have ever seen. The Exchange connected dies quietly and regularly in the background leaving the Evolution front end pretending something useful is happening. When they don't die, it can take, no lie, as much as 10 minutes just to open an email. I've hunted around but found no good solution. It's almost as though people either say it "just works" or "it doesn't work at all and I have never been able to make it work". No in between.
I'd love to use it so I could see my calendars and contacts and notes from the Exchange server. I can get to email, as I said, via Mulberry and IMAP, but that doesn't give access to the other stuff. Changing server software (I'm sure someone will suggest it) simply is not an option. What I need is to be able to fully utilize the system from my happily open-source desktop. You're a bad, bad man (but you knew that already)! Sigh... if only the rest of the world like scalable email with full Outlook compatibility and push email *and* that you can actually back up and restore reliably... (and doesn't require weekly reboots!) :) Sent in plain text from my Evolution mail client to my Scalix mailserver and out to the 'net through our Untangle server. Ah, Linux and (mostly) open source! Flame on!
