Dear Tom,

By reflecting your email to the VAGUE list, vtSDA more than doubles the number of recipients. By combining the email reach of both organizations (I admit that calling VAGUE an organization is a bit of a conflict of terms :^), both organizations gain strength and greater cohesion, for instance, I might become inclined to stop referring to vtSDA as Micro$oft loving Monopolists, which I do only to infuriate you all, while I know better, but just love to watch the fireworks that this causes, and I know it is wrong....

Sorry to be such a creature. Thanks and sincerely....

Kindest Regards,

Paul Flint

Understood, and thanks for the offer, but we're going to stick with how we
do things for now. Only a handful of our readership have text emails turned
on so it's a low priority right now. We also have several other issues to
address before we can look into these sort of options. In the meantime,
I'll try to get you text versions.

Have a good day.

Regards,

- Tom @ eM LLC

Dear Tom

I have proposed before that vtSDA combine its email information system
with the far friendlier VAGUE system, managed by UVM, which is based upon
the "mailman" program.

If we did this we could gain a great deal of traction, and you would not
be under such a strain as a Volunteer.

Not my only interests here involve receiving notice of your meetings in a
format that I am comfortable with.

Regards,

Flint

Flint -

As you know, the vtSDA is comprised entirely of 100% volunteers. The only
salaried employee _was_ our Executive Director, Patrick Martell, but per
this announcement you've just replied to, he is parting ways with the
vtSDA
as of March 20th, 2009.

Even then, the mailings were not put out by him. They were put out by a
volunteer ... me.

It would be greatly appreciated that in the future, rather than you
constantly criticizing this organization for the things we lack, would you
please simply offer up positive suggestions instead?

For example, a simple, "hey - here's a link that would make converting
complex HTML documents into text _really_ easy". That would come off so
much better and actually inspire me to make some adjustments. Just a
piece
of advice.

Anyway, I've found such an app via Google and have converted the mailing
for
you and included it below. I will do my best to convert all future
mailings
in hopes of calming your nerves on the matter.

Thank you and have a fantastic day.

                         A Fond Farewell Message
                         =======================

                          From Patrick Martell
                          ====================

                           Executive Director
                           ==================

Dear Members of the vtSDA -
                       ===========================

March 20th, 2009 will be my last day working with the vtSDA. I would like
thank each and every one of you for allowing me to serve as your
Executive Director and for working with me to make a positive impact on
Vermont's Economy and the software industry in particular. I will miss
seeing you all at the monthly Lunch & Learns and having the opportunity
to talk with you about your businesses, the challenges you've overcome,
and the opportunities you could not wait to harvest.

Thanks to everyone's help, I am very proud of the many accomplishments
achieved by the Vermont Software Developers Alliance over the past two
years: from the RBEG grant, which we used to create jobs, to the Career
Enhancement grant, which introduces middle and high school students to
computer science; from the Vermont 3.0 Career Jams, to our participation
in the legislative processes in Montpelier; and from our work with VTC to
our growing relationship with Champlain and other area colleges. Each of
these achievements continue to build awareness for and strengthen the
viability of the software industry in Vermont.

I may be stepping down as Executive Director of the vtSDA, but I will
continue to work in the tech sector. As many of you know, I have several
family businesses in this area and this transition will allow me to
pursue a number of exciting opportunities. I also expect we will continue
to run into each other in the future. I will be keeping in touch with the
vtSDA and will continue to share my excitement and enthusiasm for the
organization, its mission, and its vision. I encourage you to keep in
touch with me and to share your individual accomplishments as you
continue to grow and strengthen your own companies.

Thank you all again and I wish you all the best of luck!

Sincerely,

Patrick Martell
vtSDA Executive Director

Special Invitation
==================

Dear Members,

Please join the Board of Directors of the vtSDA for a luncheon on
Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 to celebrate Patrick's tenure as our
Executive Director. The luncheon will take place at 12 noon the vtSDA
offices at VCET (Map & Directions), prior to the Lunch & Learn
presentation by Gordon Troy on Protecting your business through
Trademarks.

The luncheon will be catered by Patrick's favorite restaurant in the
Burlington area, Pulcinella's, and will include a selection of Italian
meats and vegetables, tortellini salad, a green salad, and fudge brownies
for dessert.

If you've not done so already, we'd appreciate it if you would RSVP so we
can get a general head count for the caterers. To do this, click the red
button above to email us with your intent to attend. Thanks.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday!

Sincerely,

The Board of the vtSDA

Greetings,

How hard would it be to send your email notices in ASCII to avoid
confusion, and the stigma that comes with being monopolistic?

Regards,

Flint
