*shrug* I don't see the problem with VTSDA doing a .net presentation. They are a general group of software developers, not an Open Source or a Linux group, and whether we like it or not there are plenty of Microsoft-based developers because there's a market for their work.

That said, I agree it would be great to have a similar one for Java, or PHP, or whatever. But if we want one of those, maybe one of us ought to make the offer and see if they'd like us to come do one, instead of complaining that they're holding a Microsoft-based workshop.

I haven't used .net, so I can't comment on it. However, I'll venture
a guess that VTSDA is presenting a topic that they have had requests
for and/or appeals to a larger number of their members.

Personally, I would love to see a similar event for the Java
community. Or, in the spirit of inclusiveness, for any languages that
are heavily used on Linux. Of course, being a Java developer I am
both biased and still well aware that may open source people consider
Java just one short step away from MS.

That being said, if such an event were to be organized I would be
happy to present on any number of Java/General Programming topics.
Intro to Java Programming, Advanced Java Programming, Enterprise Java
Programming, Software Design and Architecture, Design Patterns, Agile
Methods... the list goes on. I am sure there are other members on
this list that would also be interested in such a thing. Personally I
would be happy to commit to a day of learning and sharing about
programming. So, if there is a desire beyond just bashing those poor
microsoft-loving folks over at VTSDA, lets do it. Perhaps the folks
over on the PHP users list would also participate. Maybe we could
even scare up a Ruby/Ruby-on-Rails expert or two?

And on a related topic, if there is any interest in starting a local
Java Users Group, I'm all ears. I'm also willing to take a lead role
in such a thing if there is sufficient interest.
