The piece creator comes up and I select the options for

Where are you when you 'select an image from a Paint file '? It's not clear.
Are you in 'Basic Piece' and Double clicking on the space where it says
'Double-click to add new image'?
The Base Image for piece is nearly always set up either as the base image in
'Basic Piece', or as a level in a 'Layer'. Adding an image to a 'Basic Piece'
should show up immediately. Adding it to a 'Layer' may not show immediately,
depending on the options you select.
