downloaded todays as was asked the test the Fedora OSE rpm, which I did 
and then downloaded the generic loader:- from the Oracle site
 VirtualBox-4.1.8-75467-Linux_amd64.run

What more can I do ?

The vmplayer was 64 bit and that installed AFTER patching the kernel
modules
I guess the only thing now is download the source code and build from
scratch, so is there a tar ball in svn somewhere, then it defiently the
latest.
