I personally prefer to merge the latest (innermost/bottom/leaf node first)
toward the first snapshot. But it I think it depends also on the
differences between the disks, the more the differences the more the
operation time could occur. The complexity of snapshot tree (multiple
child/grandchild snapshots) also affect the merging process. My rule of
thumb is to delete the most simple snapshots first, to simplify the complex
ones. Nevertheless, if you need to merge all snapshots, the order of
deletion will not be too relevant IMO.
