The first thing I would suggest is to start a new message, with a new subject,
that does NOT start as a reply to somebody else's discussion. What you did
below is called "hijacking the thread," and it's sure to get you no response to
your question. Except responses from people like me, telling you to follow
better etiquette.
I am also doing something called "top posting" which means your entire message
below is going to be ignored by everybody. For this reason, top posting is
also generally discouraged. But in this case, it's appropriate.

Subject: Re: [VBox-users] USB to serial adapters...
Dear folks:
I have VBox 4.2.12 with Win XP SP3 host OS and Linux Mint 15 as guest OS. The
external microphone (jack 3.5 mm audio input) doesnt work in the Guest OS. Do
you have any suggestions?
Thanks a lot for your feedback.

If it shows up and works on the Mac side... You probably already know this ...
That means it's connected to the Mac. Not windows. To connect it to windows,
you need to go to ... Shoot, I don't have VirtualBox gui available to me right
now, so I can't check. In the guest window, you click the Virtualbox menu, and
connect the USB device to the guest OS. Not the host.
Also, my understanding is that USB passthru isn't supported unless you have the
Oracle Extensions installed. Do you?
(And this is likely irrelevant, but I wouldn't expect anything to work unless
the Guest Additions are installed too. Just superstition.)
