I am having trouble getting the current version of windows (host and guest) to boot the windows ISO
file. I looked at
https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=93830#p452529
But this does not seem to apply because I had no trouble creating a Linux Guest
using a Fedora 33 iso.
I used a Fedora system to download the iso file from (simpler than using an MS
system)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
Quoting from that page:
' You can use this page to download a disc image (ISO file) that can be used to install or reinstall
Windows 10. The image can also be used to create installation media using a USB flash drive or
DVD.because when I use windows I get a directory instead of an iso file.'
I now have a copy of the iso file in my virtual fedora system:
Downloads>ls -l Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso
-rw-r--r--. 1 bradbell bradbell 6221846528 Dec 7 09:18
Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso
I used a shared folder to copy it to my host windows system
Downloads>ls -l /share/Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso
-rwxrwx---. 1 root vboxsf 6221846528 Dec 7 09:29
/share/Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso
When I look at the file shared file on my windows host I see something like this (I have removed
some of the output)
D:\share>dir Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso
Directory of D:\share
12/07/2020 09:29 AM 6,221,846,528 Win10_20H2_v2_English_x64.iso
1 File(s) 6,221,846,528 bytes
When I connect this as a optical disk to a virtual machine and try to boot I
get the following message:
FATAL: No bootable medium found! system halted.
