Oh, thanks for the explanation. Note that I said I'm using here a
Athlon 64, that doesn't mean I don't have an AMD-V enabled CPU. In
fact, I do have a Linux desktop running AMD Opteron Dual-Core 2216.

Would you consider rewording the mentioned paragraph in the User's
Manual?. Just adding the two paragraphs that you quoted above would be
more than enough to make the point clear.

"A CPU with hardware virtualization (AMD-V) is needed to run a 64-bit
guest under a 32-bit host. If your CPU supports AMD-V there would be
entries like Ubuntu (64-bit).
 If your CPU does not support AMD-V, you will not see these entries,
and you cannot run a 64-bit Guest in a 32-bit host OS".
