My experience with strace lately is that you can't detach it in many instances without hanging up the strace and process being straced. In any case, my winxp guess is making a liar out of me now. Using the lame Task Manager->Processes it's showing XP using 100% CPU. But taskmmg.exe is one of the biggest CPU users. The other is services,exe (WTF that is). There's a better system monitoring tool than taskmgr.exec but I'm damned if I can remember what it is. b.
