There's a reason why we call it our Annual Trout Kicking Expedition besides
the time I tripped over a rainbow. In the upper mile & a half, when the
water's low enough to wade, there can be twenty to thirty fish using you as
a current break. If you stand still too long, the larger fish will bump your
ankles trying to get you to move so you'll turn the rocks. Last year the
water was high most of the time & except for one day the only time we could
wade was from 5 AM until 7 or 7:30. Still caught lots of fish, so you should
have fun. Watch for the fish slappers in the outlets near the dam, you'll
know what I'm talking about when you see them.

For Mark

May your GOD be your fishing partner.

Healing Waters is a GREAT ORG. I have sent them over 1000 flies from swaps
of the last three years. Any extras are sent as well as most of the ones
swapped. Also have donated over 2k in supplies, books tools for the VA in
Reno. When I get better, I plan on teaching tying some simple flys (buggers.
streamers, the usual, elk hair caddis, bead head nymphs and some mini jigs).

Just a side note: Over 1/2 of all veterans in the VA medical system have or
have had Hep C.
There are other disibilites that agent orange is responsible also.

TKX. for the warning J.B. Misako and i are going to be part of a team
working for Project Healing Waters from Sept. 18th thru the 21st on
Taneycomo and in a classroom of some sort. We're teaching fly casting, fly
fishing and fly tying to bout 50 vets.
Should be fun and our lodging and food are bein' taken care of. Was a
definate no-brainer when they contacted us.
I've heard the stories of big browns smackin' into people night fishin'
there. We're in Branson farily often, but it'll be our first time to fish
Taneycomo. Hope the vets do well.

Can't be shiftless when wading Taneycomo, the bigger rainbows will knock you
on your butt if you don't move once in a while.

from Mike Bliss

"FISHING HAS A REPUTATION as an innocuous, fairly mindless pastime enjoyed
most by shiftless people. Perhaps that impression would be lessened if
nonfishers understood more about wild water. Calling fishing a hobby is like
calling brain surgery a job. The average visitor driving through Yellowstone
sees no farther than the surface of the water. At best the lakes and streams
are mirrors reflecting the surrounding scenery. For the alert fisherman,
especially the fly fisherman, the surface is not a mirror but a window. "
