I used to keep a journal, but I haven't had that kind of time for a while.
IT was helpful when I tournament fished, but most of that info I keep in my
head now. Sort of. Halfsheimers you know. If you fish long enough, like
everything else you do long enough, a lot of that becomes ingrained. One way
it would help fly fishing is matching the hatch w/out capturing; if you have
enough data from the particular water, or type of water, weather conditions,
time of year & food sources for that location you'll have enough info to
come close. Knowing the terrain is more helpful to me now.

How many of you actually keep a fishing journal?

What do you use?

What information do you list?

Has it been beneficial?

"I couldn't tell which brand of caddis they might be, and didn't take time
to collect any - one gets into these choices, when the travel schedule is a
bit heavy and the fishing time is a bit short, between the desire to collect
the insects upon which trout are feeding, or the conflicting desire to
collect a tithe of the trout that are feeding on the insects, based on a
guess about what the insects might be, and an estimation about which fly
might match them."
