This is absolutely true. Bluegills say, unlike bass who will see something, inhale it and taste it later. Ppl have told Me "I don't fish for bluegills cause they are too easy to catch". The tiny "butterbeans" may be too easy to catch, but for the "hubcaps" that my book is about, they can be as picky as any fish that swims. They check out EVERY piece of food before taking it. 90% of the hits we get, we don't even realize they hit it cause it happens sooo fast. I am also one who believes that ounce for ounce, pound per pound, the bluegill fights as hard as any fish in the water. The reason is simple. Look at his body shape. ROUND. And when hooked, he don't jump out of the water like a trout or bass, but rather turns his flat, round body at a 90 degree angle to the anglers, making him the fightingest son of a gun in the water. IMHO of course LOL, Chuck

Consequently, your retrieves should be extra slow with long pauses. Some anglers claim bluegills are the strongest fish in freshwater."
