Well, Sowbug is just over. The last of the friends just left my house. There
had been low water all week but I was not able to fish for personal reasons.
Most that were here caught a lot of trout, some up to 24 Inches. The gang
started getting here the Saturday before the show. We had nice weather all week
till last night. We had some snow move in and a cold rain. I had planned on
fishing with a few of the list members this morning but the rain was too cold
and heavy. The Sowbug show went real well, 100+ tyers and lot of people
attending. Quire a few of the list members were here. Allan and Buck were the
last to leave about 20 minuets ago. Will cut this off now, reports from other
members that attended I am sure will be posted. Wayne Blake Hedges came all the
way from MD. It was one of the best weeks we have had in a good while. It was
one good three day show.

Frustrated w/ not being @ Sowbug, (& in particular, not
standing in the White below the dam) I played hooky for almost two hours Friday
afternoon. 60 plus degrees & I haven’t made to Park Falls for the 7
wt to go w/ my new reel, so I pulled out the old Wonderrod just to make sure
the reel worked. I forgot how heavy that rod is. As w/ almost every time I made
it out last fall, winds were pretty brisk. Used a 9’ 3x leader & 3x
Frog Hair tippet just in case the bass were busting or I hooked another big
cat. I spent half of my early fishing undoing wind knots. Hence, the first
verse of the 20 Knot Wind, Wind Knot Blues:

I was flinging a bugger into a pretty stiff wind,

& my 3x frog hair was looking mighty thin.

The fishing was fine, but I was paying my dues

w/ the 20 knot wind, wind knot blues.
