Joyce,
Does it shrink when drying?
I've tried some silicones and they shrink and roll up feathers and wings.

Thanks,
Don

I've been using Shoe Goo II or silicone seal mixed with toluene (tolunol)
available by the quart at your nearest hardware store. It works
wonderfully..makes a clear, quick drying, flexible vinyl cement similar to
Flexament and waterproof. However, as was previously said, you must use it in a
well ventilated room. Take the flies outside to put it on them. You can also
find a nice clear Deft waterbased polyurethrane that is excellent for clear
heads with no oder. But, though it is less toxic, I note that it does include
a warning on the label. Just my 2 cents worth. Joyce

    Nev,

I didn't see photos of their jelly-rope, so I don't know if the colored
ones are transparent. The whole idea of my juice-bugs today is transparency.
Decades ago when Swannundaze was available I did juice-bugs of all colors
including clear. But Jelly-rope is softer and more clear than Swan., and is
round, not D-shaped.
I have clear and the 2 glittered flake ones in large. All of these are
clear.

Have them ship orders 1st class mail if they will for small orders.

This below is what Mad River carries, from Spirit River: (The root beer
is clear, but not real transparent.)

There are some companies handling the vinyl cement thinner, but it's only
in the 2oz. bottles.
    http://www.shop.charliesflybox.com/Vinyl-Cement-Thinner-Wapsi28.htm I
go through that in no time.
A quart of vinyl and the 3 chemicals in quart cans lasts me 10 years, and I
use it for everything. Vinyl is a very tricky plastic, so the thinner for it
is involved- needs to dilute without reactions. I got the formula from Ray
Rumpf decades ago when he had to stop carrying it for shipping purposes (bulk).

Vinyl cleans up with mineral spirits I think, but it destroys the matrix.
It's not a thinner.

This web site shows an 8oz can of vinyl cement for $11.00. That's not too
bad considering they charge $4-6 for a 2oz jar of head cement.

Don't forget to get the needle-insert glue applicators. You flyshop can
get them from Hareline.

WORD OF CAUTION! Use with plenty of ventillation if you don't want voices
in your head.

So you're going to do a Jelly-rope DVD now? Kool!!!

Well you've got me going. I have ordered some jelly rope. I went to the
Spirit River catalogue to view and then ordered small clear, couldn't find
chartreuse listed ( perhaps this is the hot yellow ) and the supplier I used
didn't have the red but I did order hot pink. One supplier only shipped UPS
and the cost was high so I dropped that one.

Now, as to thinning the vinyl cement, do I really need a mix of all three
of toluene, MEK & Acetone or do they all work individually?

Next on the list is the vinyl cement,

I an see a jelly-rope DVD on the horizon.
