Hi Don;

Most say the garcia mitchell 710 is the best, I haven't acquired that
one yet. The Garcia 1430 & 1431 and Heddon Daisy(I think they're identical
other than coloration)aren't bad.  My favorite so far is
the Bronson Royalmatic 390 auto, seems a bit more robust than the others I have.

I sure wouldn't count on any of them for fighting fish, just taking up slack
quickly.  They also work great at balancing heavy 8wt & 9wt fiberglass rods.

I think the Garcia 710 may actually have a drag but not sure.

All can be obtained used on ebay with the Garcia 710 demanding the highest
price, usually in excess of $30.00 in good condition, excellent condition units
can go for significantly more.

There's a lot of information on autos at the fiberglassflyrodders bulletin
board:

Planning to purchase an automatic fly reel for a
certain circumstance & big fish.

I need the best, but it looks like a $50
Shakespeare/Pfleuger is about as good as it gets.

Anyone know of any better manufactured
auto- reels?  Will the SP hold up?
