Hi Tony;

What do you mean by "tip breakers"???

I would think as heavy as they are, they would be "tip protectors."  They would
protect the tip since they cause the tip of the rod to go up instead of down in
the balancing scheme. Of course unless you have a real heavy rod and need a
heavy reel to balance it.

That's what I think they are best used for, balancing heavy fiberglass rods for
bass fishing.

They make good rod tip breakers if not careful. I have quite a few of them, all
packed away somewhere in storage. I was buying them at flea markets when I
could see silk lines on them hoping to salvage the line. If the line was
salvageable, it was worth more than the reel.

Planning to purchase an automatic fly reel for a certain circumstance & big
fish.

I need the best, but it looks like a $50 Shakespeare/Pfleuger is about as good
as it gets.

Anyone know of any better manufactured auto- reels?  Will the SP hold up?
