Alan: Yes, you are correct . Our long winters and the lack of really hot summers slows their growth. I actually keep a reel loaded with a bass taper floating fly line which used to I take out with me from time to time. Problem was I had a hard time catching anything on lures let alone a fly. It turned out that the lake where I had previously caught bass had been electro fished by the Fish & Wildlife Branch and all bass so caught removed and killed, however I was not aware of this and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Our Fish & Wildlife do not support bass and remove them when they can except for a few locations. They claim that they are illegally stocked, but the place that I go to for bass has contained largemouth bass for about 60 years, according to a good source of information.
