Hey DonO I caught my first steelhead on a fly with a home tied purple peril. I spotted two fish under a low bridge and had a heck of a time casting side arm upstream under the bridge against the wind. The first cast hit the bridge, but the second one timed between wind gusts flew straight under. The take was almost instantaneous. That was in '79 or '80.
