Last time I ever did any of this type brazing, all we ever had was this link
below. I was in school for welding, and we had a really cold Winter, like NOW.
And our water came from a Spring fed creek that we had a cast iron pump with a
short pipe and foot valve run to inside a concrete block “well” that my Uncle
had built yrs before, and anyway, the pump froze, even though we left the water
running in hope that it kicking on and off all night would protect it. That
pump was in about 18 pieces, and we could bring items like that from home to
the school to “practice” on. My instructor. R.T. Stewart looked at it when I
had it all spread out on the table. and said “what the heck are you gonna do
with that. I said “I’m gonna braze it back together (with brass brazing rods,
NOT aluminum ones) and he about laffed his head off, and I told hi, “I don’t
have the money to buy a new pump, so I have no chice. He said “good luck” and
walked off snickering. By the end of the day, it looked like a blue (the paints
color) and gold (the brass rods color) jigsaw puzzle. He said “well, you did
it, but I’ll be amazed if it don’t leak. I hooked it back up and it ran like
new, and continued to run till we moved back to FL about 5 yrs after that, and
was still running after that as far as I know. It may still be running in that
creek for all I know LOL. It was one of those “desperate times call for
desperate measures” type things LOL..

a propane tourch and an aluminum rod made special for doing this type
of repair is the way to go. you can even weld coke cans together wothout
burning a hole in them. My old canoe has several holes repaired this way from
being run agound on sharp rocks. Very easy to use.
