i think this is the experience of the larger shops, who can carry lines at different price points. I do Orvis days at 2 of their shops including the Manchester Headquarters.

Last year I did a kids program with over 40 kids and all the parents were taking FlyFishing 101 or 201 the same weekend and buying Clear Water outfits. It is growing, just not so fast in the very expensive equipment. We fish with a Winnebago, and the campgrounds are full of families with the Bubble pak kits trying to get started with the DVD. We have a day program we put together on the fly that helps get them started and on the water. Knots and setting up the gear, casting, and fly tying, then some on water. the families we started 3 years ago are still out there, they may have upgraded a bit, but they are having fun!

My work at the Bass Pro Shop says otherwise.

I probably get 10 people who want to learn for every one old experienced

Some mistakes are just too much fun to make only once.

Yeah I feel like I am 18 years old again. I am telling you I found the

I don't mind being the list baby. It is an honor. We need more youth
in our sport. Despite the aggravation it caused, A River Runs through
it breathed new life into an industry that was probably on the brink
of dying by giving a lot of 30, 40, and 50 yr old guys something
different to take up than golf. It became trendy and probably saved a
lot of small towns and fly shops that were struggling up to that
point. I think we are slowly shrinking again. Kids just don't enjoy or
have access to the outdoors as much any more. I think programs like
Project Healing Waters and Reel Recovery and Casting for Recovery have
helped bring in new people who are passionate about the sport whereas
the attrition rate with kids and teens may be fairly low. But I still
feel like our sport is shrinking.

With your recent fitness changes you could probably pass for ten
