So, yesterday I took an hour & went to the pond for an hour. First time I've fished since Sowbug. Used the 7 wt because it was gusting, I was targeting bass & I knew there were some big cats where I was gonna fling flies. Started out w/ a Chili Pepper (my slightly different version:)), caught some nice gills but no bass. Moved around, broke off the Chili Pepper on something & decided to go w/ a heavy olive bugger. I tie mine w/ a little gold tinsel in the tail & palmered grizzly hackle. Still no bass, but I had a coupla hits in the spot I broke off on. Threw back & hit what I thought was a snag, until it started moving. Moved about ten feet along the shore, realized it was hooked & even though I was letting line out through my fingers, the 3x tippet snapped about 6 inches from the leader.
