Hi Tony: The original number is 326 scarlet. The two spools that I purchased on eBay are marked #396 and I don’t think that is a Gudebrod number. The red does not quite match and I suspect the seller has respooled from a bulk spool of another brand. I still have an old Gudebrod colour chart from about 1986 that lists 2 other red colours being #355 Candy Apple Red and #206 Garnet. I suspect I have been scammed but at least I have 2x 100 yard spools of red for future builds. I never though that 1 rod would use more than 100 yards of thread but there was quite a bit of wastage as the intermediate wraps were only 4 or 5 turns and just handling the section they woud come undone if not varnished.
