DEL & TOM,
Both of you present valided points. It isn't always Bait Fishers
who leave trash,That is true...to a point. Around Southern California
there are 5 National Forests, to spend time in any of them you must
display an "Adventure Pass" in the window of your Car/Truck. It was
introduced 6 years ago & while some folks complained loudly about it,
most So Cal residents find no Problem dropping the $30 for one year's
use of the Pass. I do alot of Volunteer work for the DFG & we often
work with the Forest rangers when doing Field Work.
I was talking with one Ranger while we were doing Creel census on
upper Piru Creek in the Los Padres National Forest, I got around to
asking Her about the Adventure Pass & how it was working. She, the
Ranger stated it was great for warding off alot of the "people" who
left their trash all over a camp site or Streamside... Since these
same "Folks" didn't want to dish out a $30 for the Pass.
Yes DEL,it isn't always Bait Fishers who leave trash. But I'll bet
you my bottom teeth that you'll find more trash where folks are
allowed to Bait fish than, say, at Hot Creek...where you can Only
Flyfish.... As TOM stated that is a "pure & simple, Cold hard Fact".
I have no problem with Bait Fishers, hell I used to be one back when
I was a Teen!!! but my Father made damn certian we knew not to leave
trash allover & to even pick up after others... Which, as I've stated
before I still do. It's just that,I'm with Tom 100% on this, I always
seem to pick up alot more Salmon egg Jars, Worm Stryfoam containers,
Sinker packets, Hook Packets.....And the always present Beer cans
that seem to be Mandatory Equipment while Baitfishing... I think Bait
Containers & Beer cans lead a Symbiotic relation. Cause , as TOM
stated, where you find one you tend to always find the other....
I know a number of Bait fishers who really care about cleaning up
after themselves. Unfortunately, since Baitfishing is the EASIEST
form of Fishing to pick up,the Low-life, un-responsible members of
our society flock to it....and trash the areas they fish at....Thus
I'd have to say, without doubt, that Baitfishers-on a whole- leave
alot more trash Lakeside or streamside than Flyfishers do...

                                                   DEAN...
