Jimmy,
I have had good luck doing this. Go to a model
airplane store and get some landing gear wire that
will fit the opening in the rod. If real small
then you will have to get some spring wire.
Rough the wire up and insert it in the hole with
your favorite epoxy glue. Do the same to the other
end. Make the wire about three inches long, half
in each end. Wrap the section with rod wrapping
thread. I have done several rods this way and as
far as I know they are still in use.
