Jimi-
Don't know if this will work for you or not, it
depends on how many reels and spools you have. I used
to write on the reel, spool or casette (I like STH,
too), but got tired of writing over it or trying to
remove it when I changed to a different line. This
system dates back to when I was expirementing around
and changing lines a lot. Get some of those colored
dots someone else mentioned, but instead of writing on
the dot, make an entry on a little notebook you can
keep in your vest. For instance:
Red=DT6F 5X leader 9'
Grn=WF5S intermediate sink 4X leader 12'
Whi=WF7F 4X leader 12'
And so on. When I change lines, I can just scratch out
the old one in the notebook and write in the new one,
but the marker on the reel stays the same. It's a
little more of a PIA than writing on the reel or
spool, but not much. It also allows me to write in
stuff like the maker of the line and when I bought it
and comments like, "Never buy this line again!"
When I put the reel on the rod, I just take a look at
the notebook and I know what I've got on. Usually I
can remember at least for a few hours what I'm using
that day <VBG>.
Take care and good fishing.

You passers-by, who share my journey,
You move and change,I move and am the same;
You move and are gone, I move and remain.
