I usually just mark the line.  Make rings spaced a little like so...   lll
ll   that would translate to me 5 wt wf.  Double taper would look like...l
lll l .  Got the Idea. I use Sharpie markers for dry lines and fabric paint
for the sinker types.

----- ps Some times I also mark the lines at 30 ft or so to make a quick
cast without a lot of false casting.
