Hi Alan, I met that fellow too; hes a bit of a Hillbilly but OK. He used
shrink-wrap to make a durable Pike Popper with a tail of whole feathers splayed
out like frog legs. Started with the feather tails lashed to the hook. Then used
high-density foam Rubber, the kind used in upholstery shops. Cut the foam to a
general round shape and lash it to the hook but that left the thread vulnerable to
Pikes teeth. Large diameter cable type shrink-wrap fit nicely over the foam. He
cut the shrink-wrap tubing at a sharp angle so that when shrunk into place over
the foam rubber the Popper had a lip that made the thing dive on retrieval and
then it will float back to the surface. A very durable Pike fly, for the way they
chew up flies. Fished on a slow sink neutral density line.

I got one or two in my Pike box. If anyone is interested in a picture I can scan
one.

Calm days eh
Wally
