Fellow listmembers

These days, one hears the term "awesome" used so often that it no longer carries the same feeling for
me, that was until today, when I asked Wally to send me a picture of  the pike popper mentioned below.
Now, I have rediscovered the true meaning of awesome! Byard should and this to his list of pics.
It's brutal! It's AWESOME! Ask him for a picture!

Hi Alan, I met that fellow too; he’s a bit of a Hillbilly but OK. He used
shrink-wrap to make a durable Pike Popper with a tail of whole feathers splayed
out like frog legs. Started with the feather tails lashed to the hook. Then used
high-density foam Rubber, the kind used in upholstery shops. Cut the foam to a
general round shape and lash it to the hook but that left the thread vulnerable to
Pikes teeth. Large diameter cable type shrink-wrap fit nicely over the foam. He
cut the shrink-wrap tubing at a sharp angle so that when shrunk into place over
the foam rubber the Popper had a lip that made the thing dive on retrieval and
then it will float back to the surface. A very durable Pike fly, for the way they
chew up flies. Fished on a slow sink neutral density line.

I got one or two in my Pike box. If anyone is interested in a picture I can scan
one.

Calm days eh

Hey Guys,

Rob is right on. Electrical supply houses that sell to electricians have
tons of the stuff in a bazillion colors. In Edmonton, The guys at the local
supply house are always pretty entertained by me when I go in for hot tub
electrical stuff and/or fly tying materials. They are normally pretty good
about helping me out with a strange request, as it gives them a break from
the usual electrical orders.

And has anyone ever tried shrink tubing to wrap the guides on a rod. I have
a buddy that uses it, and it works very well. My only issue is that we get
some strange looks when he (6 foot 2 inch - 270 lbs) pulls out his 10 foot
Loomis with pink shrink wrap guide wraps.

Cheers,

Alberta Al

Does anyone on the list have a source for clear heat shrink tubing in

Most real electronic shops have it. Maybe Radio Shack, but I am allergic to

that store, and hit only real electroic shops.

I just bought 3 feet of the stuff in 3/16" 50% shrink for $2 at one.
