Talking about small hooks brings up a good topic for discussion...
Just how and should hook sizes be designated. Tiemco recently came out with some small hooks...like size 32...but when compared to the old Mustad 32's they are enormous. So how do we determine the size of a hook...is it by shank length or gape? I'll take a stand and go with the gape gang. Lets take a standard dry fly hook...size 16. Now many manufacturers also offer a 1x-short and a 1x-long dry fly hook...in a size 16. It stands to reason that the gapes are the same in the standard, the short and the long...just the shanks vary in size. But that same manufacturer might also offer a wide-gape 16 dry fly hook...hmmm...is it still really a size 16?????? ...let the discussion begin...;^)) keep tyin'...byard
