I agree Bryan...but that means we best pay attention when ordering 
hooks. For instance, if you buy some wide-gape 16's you are actually 
getting short-shank 14's...right...;^))

I have a Reddich Hook scale here in front of me...compliments of 
friend R Ross, and it states sizes by shank length. Now that's 
totally different from my educational inputs. Don't we measure hackle 
sizes by gape...ie...a size 16 hackle has barbules equal to 1.5x the 
gape of a size 16 standard dry fly hook?
