Hi Jim-

Just got done talking with Merrill Hummer owner of
Numb Butt Fly Co (support your local shop, y'all). He
did a 2-1/2 day trip from Warm Springs boat landing to
Maupin. The salmon flies are not really out in force
yet, maybe another week or so away. He said he still
did good fishing dry stonefly patterns. He fished a
Turk's Tarantula and a Yellow Sally pattern almost the
whole trip. If you want an update closer to when you
get here, let me know or call Numb Butt 541-325-5515
(this is not a paid testimonial, no parts were played
by professional actors).

Regarding the situation on the Deschutes along the
Warm Springs Indian Reservation, as far as I know they
have not cited anyone who was wading in the waters
along the state side of the river. People who were
angling downstream of the mid-channel islands and
fishing waters directly adjacent to the res have been
cited and had tackle confiscated. Oddly enough, I
heard an unverified rumor that at least one angler had
his gear returned with an apology. Don't know what's
going on exactly or why they've decided to take this
kind of action. As the politicians say "the situation
is fluid" (no pun intended). I don't plan on buying an
Indian permit this year and when I drift the river
will make sure to stay off the islands until this is
all resolved.

Take care and good fishing.

                         -John
                          Oregon

PS-I posted this to the list in case anyone else might
be interested. Sorry for the length.

You passers-by, who share my journey,
You move and change,I move and am the same;
