The only thing that is "not trolling" is getting a "drag free" float from start to finish on the cast. So, if you're fishing super fast water, you can't help trolling - i.e. when I'm fishing the McKenzie with my brother-in-law, in his driftboat, the river is moving so fast that my fly passes me by in about three seconds. I've learned to "go with the flow" as the boat itself moves downriver with the current. However, my weighted fly is still moving faster than the boat and it's dragging against the current. Therefore, I'm trolling !
